Hurricanes defend home ice, win 2 on weekend
The Halton Hurricanes U12 AAA team finally got to enjoy some home cooking last weekend, as they hosted games on both Saturday and Sunday.
The 'Canes just wrapped up a stretch where they had 11 straight games (including the Peterborough tourney win) away from the friendly confines of Sherwood Arena, so the short drive to the rink was appreciated by most.
On Saturday, the Burlington Eagles came to town having won only 1 time in their first 7 games. The Hurricanes didn't let the Eagles get off the ground in this one scoring 2 in the first, 5 in the second and three in the 3rd en route to a 10-0 white washing.
14 different skaters on the 'Canes hit the score sheet with 8 skaters notching multi-point games. Owen John continued his hot run in net with a shutout as the Hurricanes outshot the Eagles 39-9.
Sunday's game was a much tighter affair as the Grey-Bruce Highlanders came to town. This game was 1-1 after 2 periods, and 3-3 after the 2nd period. The 'Hurricanes scored the winner with 7 minutes to go in the 3rd, and then added an empty netter for a 6-4 win.
The 'Canes outshot the Highlanders 33-18.
The Hurricanes will host the Oakville Rangers on Sunday, another one back at Sherwood.
This will be a big test for the 7th ranked Hurricanes as Oakville comes into the game as the 3rd ranked Peewee team in ON and have won 5 of their last 6 games.
