Hurricanes travel to Whitby for Silver Stick Invitational

The U12 AAA Halton Hurricanes travelled to WHitby this past weekend to take part in the Whitby Silver Stick Invitational tournament. 25 of the top teams in ON & the US took part in this event.

The Hurricanes found themselves in Group 3 with 3 other teams:  Detroit Little Caesars, Ottawa Jr 67's, Sudbury Nickel City Sons and the Peterborough Petes.

Game 1 was a rematch from the semi-finals of the Peterborough tournament and the Hurricanes came out on top again, this time by a 4-1 margin.
Goals: Tyler H, Liam K, Evan M, Preston S

Game 2 saw the 'Canes take on the Ottawa Jr 67's. The Hurricanes used a 4 goal second period to coast to a 5-2 victory.
Goals: Cal R (3), Tyler H, James D.

Game 3 the Hurricanes took on Detroit Little Caesars, and this was a back & forth game that was tied until late in the 3rd when Detroit score with just over 2 minutes left to take a 3-2 lead. An empty net goal made the final 4-2.
Goals: Anthony T, Hayden C

Game 4 was a must win for the 'Canes if they wanted a chance to advance to Sunday. The 'Canes won 3-2, and then needed to wait to see the results of the other round robin games.
Goals: Preston S, Anthony T, Liam K

The final 8 were determined, and the Hurricanes claimed the 7th seed heading into Sunday. Quarterfinal matchups were:

1: Toronto Jr. Canadians (4-0) vs 8: Central Ontario Wolves (3-1) *JRC won 3-0
2: Pittsburgh Jr. Pens Elite (4-0) vs 7. Halton Hurricanes (3-1) *Pitt won 4-1
3: Toronto Marlies (4-0) vs 6. Vaughan Kings (3-1) * Vaughan won 3-0
4: Detroit Little Caesars (3-0-1) vs. 5. Mid Fairfield Rangers (3-1) *Mid Fairfield won 5-1

Semis:
JRC: 6 ~ Vaughan: 1
Mid Fairfield: 4 ~ Pittsburgh: 3

Finals: 
Mid Fairfield: 4 ~ JRC: 2

Congrats to Mid-Fairfield on the tournament win and to a strong JRC team as well for the 2nd place finish!
