'Canes tally 2 late to tie Admirals
The Halton Hurricanes U12 AAA team made the trip to Port Colborne on Thursday to take on the Southern Tier Admirals. STA started the season with 11-0 and 4-2 wins over Grey-Bruce and a 4-0 blanking of the Burlington Eagles, and always prove to be a tough matchup for the Hurricanes.
A tentative first period saw no scoring, with Southern Tier finally breaking the ice 4 minutes into the 2nd. The Admirals would add another before the close of the period, and took a 2-0 lead into the 3rd.
The Hurricanes offense finally got going in the 3rd, narrowing the gap to 1 goal at the 12:33 mark.
An interference minor penalty put the 'Canes on the powerplay, and deflected point shot tied the game at 2.
Both teams traded chances the rest of the way with the game ending in a 2-2 tie. This was a low scoring relatively defensive affair with the shots ending up 17-10 in favour of Southern Tier.
The 'Canes now have a week of practice as they prepare for the Peterborough Ice Fest Tournament the weekend of October 13-16. This 13 team tournament features he Ajax-Pickering Raiders, Kingston Jr. Gaels, Ottawa Valley Titans, Central Ontario Wolves, Huron Perth Lakers, North Central Predators, Peterborough Petes, Quinte Red Devils, Toronto Titans, Upper Canada Cyclones, Waterloo Wolves and Whitby Wildcats.
The "Canes get underway next Thursday with a game against Huron-Perth. The club will play 2 on Friday against Ajax-Pickering and Kingston and then wrap up round robin play with a Saturday morning game against Waterloo,
Quarterfinals go Saturday afternoon with the semi's and finals on Sunday.
