Hurricanes win in Welland
The U11 Halton Hurricanes traveled to Welland and took on the Southern Tier Admirals in the back end of a home and home on Thursday night.
The 'Canes dropped a tight contest on Monday at home by a 2-1 score, with Anthony Terkalas scoring the lone Halton goal. Brayden Park was solid in net, and despite carrying the play in the 3rd, the 'Canes could not get the equalizer.
Big Terk got the 'Canes going again scoring a shorthanded goal with 1:20 to go in the 1st, just as the 'Canes killed off the first penalty in a 2 man disadvantage. Cal Reilly sprung Terk loose with a long clearing attempt and #88 tucked it home to give the Canes a 1-0 lead.
After the Admirals tied the game at 1's halfway through the 2nd, James Del Duca converted a pass from Nolan Lillicrap on a 2 on 1 to put the Hurricanes back up by a goal with 4 minutes to go in the 2nd.
Hayden Cochren powered home a backhand 2 minutes later to stretch the visitor's lead to 3-1 as the teams headed to the 3rd period.
After the Admirals scored to narrow the margin back to 1, Nolan Lillicrap potted his first of the season giving the Hurricanes back their 2 goal cushion. From there, the team would lock it down defensively with a few blocked shots in the last minute to preserve the victory.
Final Score Halton: 4 Southern Tier: 2
Brayden Park was again solid between the pipes in the win, making several key stops.
