As another Valentine's Day has come and gone, our Hurricane heroes entered Sherwood Arena this February 15th looking to heal their heartbreak against the Oakville Rangers following a triple overtime loss to this same team just 2 weeks ago.
The home side took to the ice with confidence and a continuous effort to control the game against their arch-rivals before both teams head into the OMHA's SCTA division playoffs. On the first shift of the game, the Hurricanes would open the scoring with the left winger perfectly positioned near the goal crease to pounce on a rebound from an opposite side shot. Halton would double their lead to 2-0 on a clean shot to beat the goalie with 3 minutes to go in the first period.
Early in the second frame with the 'Canes on the power play, they would expand their lead with a deceptive shot from the right side making the score 3-0. Never a team to go down without a fight, the Rangers had some good scoring chances turned away by the Halton goalkeeper before getting on the board during their first power play and again in the final minutes of the period to close their gap to 3-2.
With the start of third period the Hurricanes looked to close the door this time and avoid another nail biting overtime, which is exactly what they did. In less than 3 minutes, they found some breathing room with a strong shot past the Oakville goalie on the blocker side before adding a fifth and final goal leading to a solid 5-2 win!
Now guaranteed to finish as one of the top 2 teams in the division, Halton looks forward to the final game of the regular season this Saturday against the Southern Tier Admirals before beginning the march on the road to the Red Caps.
